The Power of Allusion
Not illusion. Allusion. Alluding to something.
Similar to how the Passover seder plate had different objects on it that symbolized certain things, like the egg, the shank bone, charoset, etc.
Well, here is one of mine…
A bench.
This is a bench that I sat on and paced next to (I’m not much of a sitter), while managing divorce-related phone calls on my lunch breaks.
There was another bench as well. One along a nature trail in my former neighborhood. That bench was also very meaningful to me, for similar reasons.
These benches hold so much meaning to me.
A bench.
It’s just a bench.
No, it’s not just a bench.
It’s a monument to my experience.
It’s a validation of everything I went through.
It held me (literally) during trying times.
And so, when I was in the area again, more than a year later, I could not help but take a photo of it.
Sometimes it’s too much to discuss the details of an experience.
Sometimes all one needs is a symbol.
Can you think of a symbol in your life that holds great meaning for you?
Is there an object/location that conjures up thoughts/emotions while allowing them to remain sacred in your heart as you continue to heal?
