Multi-Faceted Self
Hope y’all enjoyed your extra hour today! Extra time for sleep is always lovely. Earlier onset of nighttime, not as much. In any case…
I think part of getting older is learning to embrace the different sides of ourselves. Using myself as an example: I like doing fulfilling work, I like nature, I like comedy, I like dancing, I like friends and community, I like writing and musing about life…
It’s a lot to nurture all these sides of myself. Sometimes I skimp on some parts. Either immediately or over time, I notice a lacking in my overall well-being.
I think simply creating space to allow ourselves to explore our likes and discover new things we like is a great way to encourage self-discovery.
Here’s a fun equation:
Self-discovery → Self-acceptance → Self-love
And I would put a rounded-arrow graphic that showed that self-compassion was an integral component throughout this process.
And it’s not linear. Perhaps a loop. Perhaps another shape.
I’ve learned over time that most things are not linear. In my experience, thinking in non-linear ways—being open to more complex spatial representation of things—opens up new ideas as well as enhances quality of life.
